Arya again team up with Red Giant Movies

The Arya-starrer Madarasapattinam was distributed by Udayanidhi Stalin’ Red Giant Movies and now his Boss Engira Baskaran has also been lapped up by the ace producer. BEB, which has Nayanthara playing the love-interest of Arya, has been directed by Rajesh. Yuvan Shankar Raja has scored the music for this film.

With Red Giant Movies acquiring the rights, BEB can expect ample publicity and hence turn out to be a massive hit.

Satyajyothi Films, which has given the neat entertainers Moondram Pirai, Kizhaku Vasal, Idhayam, Parthiban Kanavu, Em Magan and Jayam Kondaan, is back with their next production venture Baana Kaathadi, set in the slums of Chennai. It also marks the debut of actor Murali's son Atharva. Chirpy newcomer Samantha, who played Trisha's role in the Telugu version of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, plays the female lead. Prasanna plays a prominent role in the film.

Yuvanshankar Raja has composed music for this film directed by Badri Venkatesh. The technical crew includes Richard M. Nathan (Camera), Badri Venkatesh (Story), G. Radha Krishnan (Dialogues), Rock Prabhu (Stunts) and Suresh Urs (Editing). Karunas in a vital role will provide comic relief.

The film is all set to grace theatres on August 6, 2010.

Shruti Haasan says that 7aum Arivu is not based on Inception

Rubbishing reports that his upcoming trilingual 7aum Arivu is a remake of Christopher Nolan's just released Inception, film-maker Murugadoss has stated in a recent interview, “It’s really absurd! These rumour mongers are coming up with such silly stories. I didn’t copy Inception.”

Interestingly, the film-maker's previous film Ghajini was based on Christopher Nolan’s Mementos. 7aum Arivu stars Shruti Haasan and Suriya in the lead roles.

Shruti Haasan, who is shooting in Coimbatore for the film along with Suriya, tweeted, "Clarification...!!! 7aum Arivu is NOT based on Inception.. Not at all.. Not in the slightest."

Namitha's request to her fans

Namitha is donning a vamp role in the film Ilaignyan which has Pa Vijay in the lead role. The film has the story and dialogues of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. Namitha was introduced in the Tamil film Engal Anna.

After this she continued to act in many films including Aye, Chanakya and Aanai. The last film which she had acted in Tamil was Guru Shishyan which had Sundar C in the lead role. Now she is currently acting in the Tamil film Ilaignyan, in a Telugu and Kannada film.

Now she has reduced her weight by rigorous exercises and strict diet. Meera Jasmine, Ramya Nambeesan, Kushboo and Suman are also acting in Ilaignyan. The shooting of the film is taking place in Sriperambadur.

Popular villain Prakash Raj turns hero

Popular villain and character artiste Prakash Raj has said that though he dons villain roles in films, he is a hero in real life. The actor points out that he enjoys the same popularity that many of the actors experience.

Prakash Raj’s Duet Movies is producing the film Inidhu Inidhu, which is based on the Telugu blockbuster Happy Days. He plays the baddie in this film. According to the actor, the film is about friends and hence he decided to launch its audio on August 1st, which happens to be Friendship Day. A special bus has been arranged and the entire crew of Inidhu Inidhu will travel in it to Chennai, Trichy, Kovai and Madurai to release the audio.

On August 1st, the audio will be launched at the Ampa Skywalk and City Centre in Chennai among the public.

Ulaga Nayagan in Malayalam after 20 years

For Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan, Malayalam film industry is close to his heart. Because during his transition period in the 70s it was Malayalam films that formatted this great.

Scripted by Krishna Poojappura, this youth flick narrates a story about three friends who are in a journey to search for one of their lady love of the past. The film is also said to have a remix version of the Hindi song 'Yeh dosti hum nahin chodenge' from 'Sholay'.

Maddy and Simbu not in 3 Idiots

We already have knowledge that director Shankar is remaking the super-hit Hindi movie 3 Idiots in Tamil and Telugu. As in the case of any Shankar movie, the news mill never seems to close. When it was first decided that Vijay will enact Aamir Khan's role in the movie, Madhavan and Silambarasan were roped in for the other two roles. It was Madhavan's turn first to opt out of this movie due to his prior commitments. Now the latest is that Silambarasan is also out of the project. The reasons for this are unknown and we are sure to keep you posted on this.

Poorna while speaking to the media said,” Wherever I go many are enquiring me whether I am Asin. They shake hands with me. It is good matter to resemble a talented heroine. Even Vijay when he met me in a function told that I look like Asin.

I felt like flying. Asin herself told me that I looked her and laughed. It is a great thing to be near Asin. Many are asking me where I had gone all these days. I have come now. The film Naran which I am acting now will earn a good name. These days it is a great thing if the heroine gets two songs and four scenes.

Director Aadhi has given significance for my role. Any heroine will like to act in this role. I am also acting in Vithagan, Arjunan Kadhali and Droghi. I am really happy about this. With regard to glamour, I will definitely act. But I will not exceed my limitations. Moreover my physique will not suit glamour. The audience should come to see the actresses face and not her body.”

Aamir Khan is feeling restless

Only two weeks left for the release of his production ‘Peepli Live’, Aamir Khan is feeling restless about the whole thing. First of all, the film features no big stars, which makes Mr. Perfectionist all the more nervous. Not that he has doubt about the film’s setting and concept, but looks like Aamir just believes that whatever he’s giving to audience is different from the usual, commercial masala which stands a fair chance.

To put his mind to peace, the actor shared his anxiety on his bolg, “As 13th Aug gets closer, the butterflies in my stomach are really beginning to flutter around. Have lost my appetite and my sleep."

He further wrote that he is really depending on “you guys (audiences) this time round for support.” He stressed saying, “This is an especially tough one with no big stars and a film based in a rural background.”

Aamir then went on to request, writing, "For those of you living outside India please tell all your friends, neighbours, collegues, gardners etc, who may not have ever seen an Indian film before, to give this one a try. Assuming you like it of course."

A satire, ‘Peepli Live’ is directed by debutant Anusha Rizvi and features Raghubir Yadav and Omkar Das Manikpuri in lead roles. The film is set in a village called Peepli and it revolves two poverty-stricken farmers.

Priyanka's feelings on acts the wife of seven men

In Vishal Bharadwaj’s murder thriller ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’, Priyanka Chopra gets to play wife to seven men. While one would have thought that her character in the film is freaky bold and adventurous, ask Priyanka who played the role. For it was not a rosy journey all the way shooting it…. For instance, the actress was quite nervous when it came to shooting romantic scenes with veteran Naseeruddin Shah, who is the oldest of her seven husbands.

Incidentally Priyanka had worked with Shah earlier in ‘Asambhav’ (2004). Since then PC had high regard for the actor, so much that she said to have been nervous to do the love sequence with him.

Moreover, when Shah returned to the shoot after his brief illness, PC was feeling all the more uneasy. But Naseer put all her fears completely at rest by turning up very energetic and went on inspired her to give their best shot.

Priyanka was gung-ho about Shah’s performance and said that her initial apprehensions were done away with the shoot. On the other hand Naseer stated that since her ‘Asambhav’ days Priyanka has evolved as an actor.

Ajith ready to give a treat to his fans

Now that he is back from his favourite sport, the ‘Thala’ is getting ready to give a wholesome treat to his fans. For, circles close to him say he is preparing himself for three movies at one go.

“While the first project is ‘Mangaatha’, Ajith’s 50th film to be directed by Venkat Prabhu, the second will be a prequel to ‘Billa’ by none other than Vishnuvardhan. In addition, Ajith, who recently watched ‘Madrasapattinam’, has expressed interest to work with director Vijay,” sources say.

Remember it was Ajith who introduced Vijay to the industry in ‘Kireedam’, they say and add: “Besides, these three projects, the actor’s long pending project with Gautam Vasudev Menon may also take off.”

Karthi: I don't worry about the rumors with Tamanna

Actor Karthi says,” I am not worried about the rumors regarding me and Thamanna. My parent are searching for me a suitable girl.”

Wherever you go there are rumors about Thamanna and you. Are you not upset about this?

There is no truth in this. It is a pure rumor. Then why should I be upset. It is a usual thing that happens about celebrities. I take this very cool. I am not worried in any way. Since this affecting a girl (Thamanna) I am denying this.
It seems you family is looking out for a girl?

Yes. It is true. My family members are looking out for a girl throughout Tamil Nadu. I have no intention marrying a girl who is working. She should be submissive and at the same tim care. I am waiting. Normally parents are reluctant to give their daughter to cinema actors. If they know about our family, they will not be reluctant. Normally when they search alliance for the daughter, they will look for doctors and engineers. If they get an actor, they will select the engineer or doctor only.We cant say that it is wrong.

Surya’s films have also been hits and your films have also been hits. Can we call this luck?

I have faith in luck. You can go up only if you have luck.

How does your father take both of your growths?

My father Shivakumar who was good and helping nature did not get proper recognition but now he has got this through my brother Surya and me. I am really happy about this. My father use to always tell that acting is the blessing from God. It is true. We have got the affection from all Tamil people. This is itself is blessing. In order to retain this blessing from God, we are working very hard.

How do you select the stories? Does your father interfere?

We select films in such a way that it should be different from the earlier film we had acted. My brother alone listens to the story for his film. I listen to the story for the films I act. Our father does not interfere.

Trisha: I am Tamil girl so will not go to Sri Lanka for shooting

Trisha is for the first time pairing with Kamal Haasan in the film Manmadha Ambu. Udhayanidhi Stalin is producing the film which is being directed K S Ravikumar. The shooting of the film took place in Italy, France and Spain for more than 50 days. Trisha who had completed the shooting and returned to Chennai gave an interview to the media.

How was the experience acting with Kamal Haasan for the first time in the film Manmadha Ambu?

Kamal sir is like a university. I have learnt a lot of things from him. I have been to foreign locales for many films. But Manmadha Ambu was a sweet experience.

It is seems you got lost in the ship?

It is not some controversial thing. It happened just like that. Since there was huge crowd, there was commotion.

How is your first Hindi film Khatta Meeta doing?

This film is doing well at the box office in all the cities including Chennai. I am donning the role of a Corporation Commissioner in that film. There is a good reception among the audience.

In Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya you acted in a kissing scene with Simbhu. Will you continue to act in kissing scenes?

That scene in Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya was a natural one. It was just merely lip touching lip. Gowtham Menon has shot it in a decent way. I will continue to act in kissing scene.

There was a controversy about Asin because she had been to Sri Lanka for a Hindi film shooting. You have also started acting in Hindi films. Will you to Sri Lanka for shooting?

I am a Tamil girl born and brought up in Tamil Nadu. If the Nadigar Sangam says that we shouldn’t go to Sri Lanka, I will not go there whether it is Hindi or any other language films. Such a situation has not risen for me. We will see when it comes.

For the last seven years you are a successful heroine. Have you not thought about marriage? When are you going to get married? Whether that will be love marriage?

I have not thought marriage so far. Now I don’t have the mind of getting married. But I firm in one thing. If at all I am getting married, that will be love marriage only. Only after moving with him and understand him, than only will I get married.

Ajith will act Billa part 2 after Venkat Prabhu's project

Director Vishnuvardhan's association with Ajith in Billa proved out to be highly successful in 2007. Billa proved to be a landmark movie in Tamil cinema for its stylish looks and action sequences. Ajith later went on to act in Aegan and Asal while Vishnuvardhan directed Sarvam.

Now the latest news on the actor-director duo is out. Vishnuvardhan is all set to partner again with Ajith for the sequel on Billa. Sources confirm that Vishnu is ready with the script and is waiting for confirmation of dates from Ajith. It is confirmed that the shooting of Billa 2 will commence from early 2011. Padmapriya while speaking to the media recently said that she is giving importance to commercial films. She said,” I have acted in lot of films for the satisfaction of my mind. I have got lots of awards for acting in these films.

But there is recognition and importance for the actresses who act in commercial films. So I have decided to act in commercial films for the next few years. I had acted in a Hindi film which had good storyline. I also earned a good name. After this I got similar film offers. But I rejected about five such films.

I am ready to act in glamour roles. After being recognized as commercial heroine I will act in other types of film. Then only I wil be successful.”

Samira Reddy: I love Gowtham Menon

Samira Reddy says,” I am a great fan of Gowtham Menon. Though my role was small in Vaaranam Aayiram, I got lot of fans because of him. I love Gowtham Menon.”

Samira Reddy was a glamour doll in Bollywood but Gowtham Menon made her dress modestly in the film Vaaranam Aayiram and showed her as a beautiful angel. Because of this film, Samira Reddy had got a good name in Tamil cinema. Now again she is acting in Gowtham Menon’s film. The film is being produced by Gowtham Menon and is titled Nadunisi Naaigal. Samira Reddy eyes widen when she speaks about this film.

She said,” You will see a different Samira Reddy in this film. This film will create great thrill in the theatres. This film and I will be much spoken. I am not interested in glamour roles alone. I like to journey in everything.

Though my role in Vaaranam Aayiram was small I was able to earn lot of fans. But I was the heroine in Asal but many people did not like that. Now I will be choosy and act in selected films. I am a great fan of Gowtham Menon. It is a great gift for me to act once again in Gowtham Menon’s film. I love Gowtham Menon.

Both Asal and Vaaranam Aayiram had good stories. Above all I like Ajith and Gowtham Menon. That is why I agreed to act in these films. That doesn’t mean that I will act in the films directed by popular directors. I liked the Tamil film Kaaka Kaaka very much. So when Gowtham Menon called me to act in Vaaranam Aayiram, I was thrilled.”

Dhanush's 27th Birth day celebration

Dhanush turns 27 today and he is busy shooting for his upcoming Maapillai in Pollachi. The modest actor celebrated it on the location of Maapillai. The film is progressing at a rapid pace and Dhanush is taking extra care to do his scenes as this is a remake of a Rajini’s super hit fil.

After completing the Pollachi schedule Dhanush and his team will return to Chennai on August 12. In Chennai one song sequence and one action sequence will be shot with which the film will almost be complete.

The Dhanush of Thulluvatho Ilamai is completely changed. In his message Dhanush has said, “I wonder if I had made proper use of my life till now. There’s a lot more I could have done. I have to work harder to achieve something.”

I am also directing this film. We shot this film in Vagamon in Kerala for 64 days. This place is a hilly terrain. The film will definitely create sensation after its release. The story and sequences will be suitable for all. The climax scene will tilt the hearts of audience.”

Actress Anjali’s star value on the rise

Anjali who made a modest entry with the critically acclaimed film 'Kattrathu Thamizh' opposite Jeeva became a star after 'Angadi Theru'. But in the very beginning it was Mu. Kalanjiam who spotted Anjali even before ‘Kattrathu Thamizh’ and all set to launch the terrific actress with a film titled 'Sathamintri Muthamidu'. Kalanjiam had also given a new name Sundari.

But later ‘Sathamintri Muthamidu’ was shelved and with a new name Anjali moved on to do ‘Kattrathu Thamizh’ and the rest is history. But Kalanjiam had signed Anjali for four films before the turn of fortunes happened with ‘Angadi Theru’.

Actress Asin's Sri Lanka visit issue

The Federation of Tamil Associations of North America (FeTNA), an umbrella body of more than 30 Tamil organisations across the United States, said on Monday that it would boycott films starring Asin because of her visit to Sri Lanka.

This decision comes a day after the South Indian Film Artistes Association (SIFAA) said on Sunday that a joint consultative committee would decide on the action to be taken against actors visiting Sri Lanka.

In a statement, FeTNA chief Palani Sundaram said, “The Federation of Tamil Sangams of North America will boycott films of Asin because of her visit to Sri Lanka despite a ban by the Tamil film industry.”

Meanwhile, the actress, who was in Mumbai on Monday, said she did not flout any diktat of the Nadigar Sangam as she stayed away from the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) award ceremony in the island nation.

“I spoke to SIFAA president Sarath Kumar and I am ready to abide by the joint committee’s direction,” she reportedly said. The committee comprises the Film Employees Federation of India, SIFAA, Tamil Film Producers Council, South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce and directors association among others.

Chief Minister's address in Endhiran audio launch

Endhiran's audio launch, to be held in Malaysia, will have the Chief Minister delivering a recorded congratulatory message. This is because the producers wished to have the Chief Minister's presence at the event. Recording of the message was held at the Kalaignar TV studios recently in Chennai. This message will be screened alongside the keynote address at the audio launch event.

Producers SUN Pictures recently decided to conduct the audio launch of Endhiran in Malaysia on the 31st of July. Although the invitees list is not out yet, the event is rumored to attract the kingpins of the industry including the film's lead pair Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai.

Shruti Haasan excited working with Suriya

The movie is about the love, sacrifice, loyalty of a young man who changed the lives of many.

Produced in association with Vasishta Pictures, this movie has debutants Aneesh and Shruti as the lead pair. Saranya, Dilipraj and Avinash also done important roles. The music of the movie has been composed by James Vasanthan while Na. Muthukumar and Yugabharathi have penned the lyrics. 3 Idiots may be Shankar's another high profile film

Another going to be much hyped film of the year, the remake of Hindi ‘3 Idiots’, is taking shape as Shankar who is directing this bilingual is ready after completing his ‘Endhiran’. With a lot of imaginations already flowing from all corners it became clearer yesterday when Gemini Film Circuit finally confirmed that Shankar will be in charge of the south Indian remakes.

Immediately after signing the project director Shankar went to Vijay and confirmed him for the Aamir Khan's role. Then Madhavan was confirmed for the same role he played in Hindi version. But there is still news saying Madhavan is not interested to do the role again. Whether he will be able to say no to a Shankar film is a question. For the third main lead Silambarasan aka STR is confirmed. Initially Jeeva was pushed to do this role but Shaknar has opted for STR.

In Telugu, as per news available till now, Mahesh Babu will replace Vijay and Madhavan and STR are being retained for the Telugu also. And for music Shankar may have to leave A R Rahman out as he will be busy on his 'Jai Ho' World Tour all this year. Sources say Shankar has settled for Yuvan Shankar Raja this time.

Enthiran Movie audio release date is 31 July

One of the most eagerly awaited films of this year is the Rajinikanth - Aishwarya Rai starrer Enthiran - The Robot. The film, a trilingual (Tamil, Telugu and Hindi), is directed by one of the hottest directors down South- Shankar.

Enthiran - The Robot is touted as one of the most expensive films with a heavy dose of special effects. No wonder then that the film has been in the making for quite some time now. Gautham Menon and Trisha make magic again in VTV hindi remake

Trisha is getting ready for her role in the remake of the Tamil blockbuster Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa in Hindi. Directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, VTV enchanted the audience with its music and the sizzling hot on-chemistry between Trisha and Silambarasan. In fact, the pair is being touted as one of the best on-screen couple in Kollywood. The team of ‘Manmadhan Ambu’ is back after their hectic European schedule. The schedule spawned hot news like Trisha went missing in the luxury cruise and Trisha's mother is doing a cameo at the behest of Kamal and so on. But what we have got now is the story line of ‘Manmadhan Ambu’.

‘Mamadhan Ambu’ is a great situational comedy much in line with some old Kamal classics like Michael Madhana Kamarajan, Panchathanthiram etc. In ‘Manmadhan Ambu’, Kamal Haasan plays a private detective hired by Madhavan. Madhavan is in love with Trisha and before marriage Madhavan suspects Trisha's sincerity and asks Kamal who runs a private detective agency to trail her and give him good news.

In this colourful comedy Madhavan's character is called Madhan and Trisha's character is called Ambujam. Hence the title ‘Manmadhan Ambu’. Got it?

Though Sangeetha plays Kamal's jodi in the film sources say there is song in the film pictures on Kamal and Trisha.

Director Suseenthiran speaks about Naan Mahaan Alla Movie

Afters the success of Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu, director Suseenthiran is back with his much-awaited project Naan Mahaan Alla, staring Karthi and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead roles.

“NMA is a slice of our life in a big city. Karthi plays a happy-go-lucky, middle-class guy, whose life takes a dramatic turn after a particular incident in his life. I chose Karthi because he has a very innocent face and one can easily relate to him. This is a character Karthi has not attempted before and he’s done a fabulous job of it. Jayaprakash of Pasanga fame plays his father and the scenes with Karthi and Jayaprakash are a treat. It’s a stylish yet realistic film,” the director to a leading English daily.

"Moreover, since 80% of the film was shot live, I had to be very careful with the crowd. NMA demanded special attention as the film moves in a rapid pace. That’s the reason that I don’t want to classify it into a particular genre. It has every emotion a human being experiences in real life,” he added.

Meanwhile, Suseenthiran has already started shooting for his next venture Azhagarsamiyum Kuthiraiyum. “It’s the story of a dwarf and a horse. Appukutty of Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu fame plays the hero and Saranya Mohan plays the heroine,” he revealed.

After a string of blockbusters to his credit, remake king Jayam Raja and brother Jayam Ravi is back with their next venture Thillalangadi, a remake of the Telugu hit Kick. Jayam Ravi and Tamannaah play the lead roles and Shaam reprises his role from the original. Ravi has returned to his chocolate boy look after donning an action hero's look in Peranmai. This is Ravi's first film after marriage; Prabhu and Suhasini play pivotal roles; Vadivelu provides comic relief; music is scored by Yuvanshankar Raja.

Produced by Editor Mohan, the film is an out-and-out entertainer with peppy songs. Thillalangadi is the story of an intelligent thief who loots money from the rich and the famous, so who is that thief? Will he get caught? Watch out for the film!

The Plot

Thillalangadi is the story of a young man Ravi (Krishna) who is adventurous and seeks excitement in his everyday life. The urban, smart and cool-headed guy finds it difficult to stick to any job. But destiny dictates that he meet Nisha (Tamannaah), and fall in love with her. Prabhu and Suhasini play caring parents of Ravi.

Nisha sets a condition that he must stick to one job if he wants to marry her. But when she learns that Krishna has quit his new job immediately after joining, she is disillusioned and decides to leave him. She then decides to move to Malaysia, where she meets police officer (Shaam) and decides to marry him. Shaam is on a mission to nab a thief which naturally turns out to be Krishna. How Krishna manages to evade arrest and also win back his lady love forms the remaining part of the story.

The Performance

Director Jayam Raja has made every effort to efficiently deliver this action-packed adventure filmed extensively in Malaysia. The first half has loads of humour with Ravi, Vadivelu and Santhanam. The on-screen chemistry between Tamannaah and Ravi is convincing. Tamannaah dishes out a satisfactory performance as she perfectly fits her assigned role. Tamannaah as Nisha oozes glamour. The director has fine-tuned his approach and manages to pull off a good entertainer.

B. Rajasekhar's camera work is a highlight; Yuvanshankar Raja's music is just up to the mark. Ravi, as usual, stands out with his performance as he oozes energy with matching dialogues. Shaam makes a memorable performance which is the major highlight of the film.

The Verdict

Overall, the film gives light-hearted entertainment that will definitely not disappoint anyone. This is a flashy film with a predictable plot and loads of action.

Vijay joins Kajal Agarwal in Lingusamy's Movie

After shelving his film with Silambarasan, director Lingusamy is gearing to start his new film with Vijay. Vijay is said to begin this film in November by which time his other film ‘Velayudham’ will be completed. And for the heroine of ‘Velayudham’, sources say Vijay and Lingusamy have finalised Kajal Agarwal for the role.

Kajar Agarwal was considered for the role Hansika Motwani plays in ‘Velayudham’. But Kajal did not have the required dates and had to sacrifice the offer. Now all are in place and Kajal Agarwal is ready to rock with Vijay.

‘Velayudham’ is an action packed film produced by Cloud Nine Movies much in the classy lines of earlier super hit ‘Paiyaa’.

Super star's Endhiran audio rights has sold out for Rs 7 Crores

Oscar Award winning music composer A R Rahman has proved his mettle once again because the audio rights of the film Endhiran has been sold out at a Whooping price.

The film which has Rajnikanth and Aishwarya Rai in the lead roles is being directed by Shankar. The audio CD of this film is being released by end of this month in a gargantuan function to be held at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

Think Music has acquired the audio rights for this film. The audio rights have been sold out for Rs 7 Crores. This is the first time in the history of cinema that a audio right for a Tamil cinema has been sold out for this price.

Nayanthara replaces Vidya Balan in Mathilukal

Contrary to earlier reports that Vidya Balan would be the heroine in Mammootty's forthcoming Prasad directed Mathilukalkkappuram (sequel to renowned Adoor Gopalakrishnan's 1989 classic Mathilukal), it is now said that reigning queen Nayantara, who is going through a dull phase in her career, will be the heroine.

According to sources, Nayantara will be seen in the role of Narayani, the woman prisoner on the other side of the prison wall in the original. Mammootty will once again appear as Basheer. Ravi K. Chandran will handle the camera and Oscar winner Resul Pookutty will handle the sound. The film is produced by Mammootty�s production company Playhouse. The shooting will begin soon.

KHATTA MEETHA- Movie Review

Corruption is rampant in many countries today. No work is possible without chai paani (bribe). Everyone must have experienced this ubiquitous nuisance. KHATTA MEETHA, a remake of the 1989 Malayalam drama film, VELLANAKALUDE NADU (which was again directed by Priyadarshan) is a satire on this perpetual menace. While it was a novel issue back then, it’s been done copious times over the years.
Sachin Tichkule (Akshay Kumar) is a struggling road construction contractor in a small town who has taken loans practically from the entire village. But he still manages to wear sunglasses! Trigun Fatak (Manoj Joshi), Sachin’s brother-in-law, is a corrupt chief engineer who works in the municipality. Suhas Vichare (Milind Gunaji) is a road contractor married to Sachin’s second sister. Anjali (Urvashi Sharma) is Sachin’s college-going sister.

While Sachin struggles through his never-ending woes, things go haywire. A bridge collapses because of bad construction, taking many innocent lives. Figun, Suhas and others who were involved in the construction, conveniently pass the buck to Vishwas Rao (Tinu Anand), who is a driver of the Tichkule family and later kill him. Azad Bhagat (Makrand Despande), who has lost his wife and son in the bridge mishap, is determined to bring to justice the criminals behind the scam.

The common man’s troubles remain the central plot of the film. As if Sachin’s miseries weren’t enough, the new municipal commissioner turns out to be his ex girlfriend Gehna Ganpule (Trisha) who now loathes him.

The successful director-actor jodi of Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar (HERA PHERI, BHOOL BHULAIYAA, DE DANA DAN) fails to entertain this time. Priyadarshan falls short to render the issue of corruption, which Rajkumar Hirani did effectively in portions of LAGE RAHO MUNNABHAI. It has the right intent but offers nothing which we haven’t seen. The screenplay gets monotonous with Sachin Tichkule constantly borrowing money, his numerous tiffs with Gehna, perverted acts of Rangeela (Rajpal Yadav) and random songs
.

That a corrupt politician has maintained a file of all the wrong doings of his accomplices including himself, is inexplicable. It’s ludicrous to see Azad Bhagat easily getting inside a politician’s house and stealing important documents. The climax is too convenient to grasp.

There are a few laugh-out-loud moments like the one in which the road roller rams through Gehna Ganpule’s house or when Karodimal (Asrani) is attending countless calls at the same time. But that’s just about it.

With an excruciating long running time of 2.40 hours, the film drags. Music by Pritam except for the song Nana Chi Taang, is very poor according to his standards. Only V Manikanandan’s choreography is neat.

Akshay Kumar’s comic timing is impeccable but he is very loud. Trisha, who makes her Hindi film debut, is passable. She looks too young to be a municipal commissioner! Urvashi Sharma is decent. Johny Lever, who is seen after a very long time, is uproarious. Wish we could see more of him. Rajpal Yadav gives a superlative performance. Makrand Despande is effective in his small role. Manoj Joshi is impressive while Kulbhushan Kharbanda is good.

KHATTA MEETHA isn’t sour or sweet. It’s simply bland.

Vijay and M Raja both remake king make Velayudham as successful movie

Remakes have always been safe bets for Vijay and director M Raja. With the former having a track record of films like ‘Kadhalukku Mariyadhai’, ‘Ninaithen Vandhai’, ‘Priyamanavale’ and ‘Pokkiri’, the latter has carved a niche for himself doing remakes from ‘Jayam’ to ‘Santosh Subramaniam’.
And now, both have come together for ‘Velayudham’, which too is said to be a remake of a Telugu hit, titled ‘Aazad’. Produced by Aascar V Ravichandran, the film that was launched amidst much fanfare has two heroines- Genelia and Hansika Motwani.
Says Raja, “This is my first film with a big actor like Vijay. He suits to the role well. The movie is about an ordinary youngster who transforms as a catalyst to reform the society. I am hopeful ‘Velayudham’ will work big time with the audience.”
“Vijay plays an enterprising youngster while Genelia is doing the role of a journalist,” the director says and adds: “Hansika Motwani and Saranya Mohan are also doing crucial characters. Comedy will be taken care of by Santhanam and Sathyan.”
The plot is interesting. Genelia reports that a superhero is saving the city and circumstances lead Vijay to accidentally save the city from the impostors, making him the accidental superhero!
Vijay’s costumes in the movie seem to be inspired from a popular game title. Though nothing is known how long he’d be wearing the costumes, the first look given by the makers suggest Vijay’s up to something big!
Saying Priyan’s cinematography will be a highlight and Vijay Antony has come out with catchy songs, Raja continues: “On the whole, ‘Velayudham’ will be a wholesome treat to not just Vijay fans, but for every movie-goer.”
On his part, Vijay says, “Working for a big banner like Aascar gives me immense proud. Raja is known for his knack to deliver blockbusters without a break. ‘Velayudham’ is a nice story. Hopefully our combination should rock.”

Sneha to do Anushka's role in Vedam remake

There are rumors that romance has blossomed between Arya and Madrasapattinam heroine Emmy. Emmy who hails from Hamilton, UK has won Miss Teen World Title there. She is also doing modeling there.

Director Vijay had been to London to find a suitable heroine. After seeing many photos, he selected Emmy Jackson. Arya and Emmy did not move very much in the initial stages of shooing. But later on they became close. After completing the shooting, Emmy moved back to Hamilton, but both of them where speaking on the phones hours together. The crew says that both are in love.

When asked Arya about this, he said,” We are both good friends. It is true that I have got a fascination for her. By end of this week Emmy is coming to Chennai. I will be taking around and show the present Chennai.”

Silambarasan joins Sneha Ullal

Again on Silambarasan. Silambarasan film 'Vaanam' is making the news from the launch date. One of the news was that Anushka refused to do the film with Silambarasan but finally agreed to do an item number. Another was Lingusamy accusing Silambarasan for delaying his film because Silambarasan has started to shoot for ‘Vaanam’ ahead of his film. Another was the debate over if Anushka had refused who will be the heroine of ‘Vaanam’. ‘Vaanam’ is the Tamil remake of super hit Telugu film 'Vedam'

Silambarasan has got his heroine. He has chosen Sneha Ullal to be his heroine in ‘Vaanam’. Sneha Ullal was introduced by Salman Khan in Hindi after he broke up with Aishwarya Rai. The only reason Salman had to launch Sneha Ullal was that she looked like Aishwarya. But her career in Hindi was a flop and so like all drop outs she looked towards south. In Telugu she is doing fairly well. Sneha Ullal is one of the heroines of the recent Telugu box office hit 'Simha' starrig Balakrishna.

Now she is coming to Kollywood through Silambarasan. Sneha Ullal plays the sex worker role played by Anushka in the original. STR and Sneha Ullal will start shooting their portions from July 24 in Chennai.

Samantha had acted in the film Vinnai Thandi Varuvaya. Now she is also acting in Bana Kathadi. She has donned the role which Trisha did in Vinnai Thandi Varuvaya in the Telugu version.

Siddharth says Putham Pudhu Kaalai movie likes Telugu Vedam

The crew members of multilingual actor Siddharth’s new film 180 (Putham Pudhu Kaalai in Tamil), directed by Siddharth's mentor P. Jayendra and produced by Kiran under the banner of SPL Cinemas and Agal Films, held a media briefing at Hotel Taj Deccan, Hyderabad. Hero Siddharth, heroines Nitya Menon, Praya Anand, Jayendra, Kiran and others took part in the meet.

While talking about the film, actor Siddharth said that 180 is like Vedam and Prasthanam. "At present, films like Vedam and Prasthanam are making waves in the industry. I too want to do such a film. This script (180) really comes under that genre. Apart from the regular features which the audiences wish to see in my films, 180 would tread the path of Vedam and Prasthanam. Now, I have variety in my film, for which I always vied. I hope this film would entertain both Telugu and Tamil audiences," he said.

Director Jayendra said: "It is a complete romantic entertainer. The story would unfold in Hyderabad and would proceed to the US. It is a city-based love story. We are doing it simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil with the same title. The regular shoot of the film has already commenced."

Manmadhan Ambu movie story line

The story of Manmadhan Ambu is out! If sources are to be believed, the story goes on like this: Madhana Gopal (played by Madhavan) is deeply in love with actress Ambujam (Trisha). He wants to decipher if she is also truly and madly in love with him. In order to find this out, he engages a private detective, a role essayed by Kamal Haasan. Kamal follows Trisha who goes on a cruise for a film shooting. He has seven days at hand to complete his assignment.

Since he follows Trisha constantly and befriends her, Kamal’s partner Sangeetha suspects that he is two-timing her. Finally, Maddy chips to explain to Sangeetha about the purpose of Kamal following Trisha and all ends well. The name Manmadhan Ambu is derived from Manmadhan and Ambujam. It is said that Kamal’s character name could begin or end with “Man”. This mean Man stands for Kamal’s character name, Madhan for Madhavan and Ambu for Trisha.

Actress Katrina birthday surprise

On her birthday recently, Katrina Kaif, got a surprise she’ll never forget. While she was shooting with Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol at the Running of the Bulls festival in Pamplona, Spain, director Zoya Akhtar shouted for the shooting to be halted.

When the noisy festive bustle went quiet, Zoya announced it was Katrina's birthday and asked everyone to sing Happy Birthday.

Recalling the emotional moment, Katrina said, "Suddenly there were 500 people - Spanish, Indian and every nationality you can imagine - on this main street in Pamplona singing Happy Birthday to me. It was an awesome moment and the best birthday gift I've ever had. It was very considerate of Zoya to arrange this surprise for me."

The whole cast was shooting together in Spain for Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara by participating in one of Spain's biggest festive events, the Encierro, or Running of the Bulls festival.

"Since Zoya's film is set in Spain, the first thing that came to the team's mind was a bullfight. But they all thought that was too predictable. So they hit upon the Running of the Bulls festival,” said a source.

Akshay Kumar feels bad on Trisha

The Hindi film Khatta Meeta in which Trisha is doing the female lead role is all set for release. Akshay Kumar is doing the lead role. Priyadarshan is directing this film.

The publicity campaign is going on in Mumbai. It is habit of Bollywood stars to participate in the talk shows, trailer release and giving interviews. But Trisha did not participate in the publicity campaign. She is camping in European countries for the shooting of the Kamal starrer Manmadha Ambu.

It seems that Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan are upset because of this. This is Trisha’s first Hindi film. Akshay Kumar said,” This is Trisha’s first Hindi film. It is her duty to reach the film to the audience.

She has become so irresponsible.” Akshay Kumar has already signed Trisha for two of his films. Now Akshay may sign someone else in the place of Trisha.

Ajith's 50th movie again trouble

The buzz doing rounds in Kollywood is that Venkat Prabhu may opt for a title change for his recently announced Mangatha. Reports say that Mano Akkineni has registered this title and is not willing to part with it. The film’s producer Dayanidhi Azhagiri, director Venkat Prabhu and actor Ajith have all requested Mano to part with the title.

However, Mano is said to be adamant because he has a story that will be apt for the title Mangatha. With this new issue surfacing, the team may opt for a new title.

Suriya and Jyothika's new baby name is Dev

Jyothika and Suriya were blessed with a baby boy in the early hours of June 7. It was their second child after a cute girl ‘Diya’.

Suriya’s fans were eagerly waiting for the naming of the boy child for over a month and now they are elated. Suriya and Jyothika have named their son ‘DEV’. Dev means God in Sanskrit. It also means a divine being; an idol; a king.

The naming ceremony was a very private affair that happened amongst the family members.

Simbu speaks about vijay's replacement in Lingusamy project

Recently, a section of the media speculated that Ilayathalapathy Vijay will replace Simbu in director Lingusamy's next. But now the actor Simbu has clarified his stand on the whole issue.

According to a statement from Simbu, he was first signed up by director Lingusamy’s Tirupathi Brothers for a film with Bhoopathi Pandian. But later, the scenario changed and the film was to be produced by Dhayanidhi Azhagiri’s Cloud Nine with Lingusamy directing it.

"Technically, I have not signed any film with Cloud Nine nor have I allotted any dates to them. Dhayanidhi Azhagiri is my close friend and we share a great rapport. Lingusamy has not been able to narrate the script to me till date nor tell me the exact dates that he wants. I waited for over 100 days in vain for his complete script and then decided to do a quickie Vaanam. I had informed Durai about it before he left to South Africa for football finals and he promised me that we will start the shoot from September 1,” a statement from Simbu clarified.

“I was shell shocked to read reports in the media that Lingusamy has sacked me! How can he expect me to wait for more than 100 days without a proper script or dates of shoot? I had told him that I will be free from September 1, after 15 days shoot of Poda Podi in London which has already been fixed. But he jumped the gun and announces that I have been replaced by another actor! This is totally unprofessional and not done,” he added.

Endhiran release date has changed as September 3

Even as news about Shankar's approval to direct the Tamil, Telugu remakes of Hindi ‘3 Idiots’ is still raging there was some media reports that hinted his ambitious Rajinikanth film ‘Endhiran’ may not be released in August as told by the super star himself.

News floating today is almost confirming it. The new release date for ‘Endhiran’ could be September 3 according to some sources in Shankar's office.

Though there is no reason given for the postponement, it may be due to the enormous number of prints that will be generated for a worldwide release. In India alone ‘Endhiran’ is expected to strike 800 screens across the country. Japan and Chine will get 120 prints and for other global markets 160 prints are expected to fly. That means ‘Endhiran’ will have around 1500 prints in release and that will make it one of the biggest films of the world ever.
