Vidya Balan's condition to play Silk Smitha role

We had earlier reported that actress Vidya Balan will be playing yesteryear South Indian screen seductress Silk Smitha on screen for Ekta Kapoor's Dirty Picture, a biopic on the late Silk Smitha. Vidya Balan initially accepted this role which requires a liberal skin show, but now, she actress has come up with conditions. She recently told Ekta to avoid showing her cleavage excessively, but she would be comfortable appearing in backless outfits.

Silk Smitha, originally from Eluru, Andhra debuted in movies with the Tamil movie Vandi Chakkaram (1979). Smitha garnered attention for her glamourous roles played throughout the 80's and 90's in South Indian movies. At age 35, Smitha committed suicide in a deeply distressed state after a failed attempt producing movies and unsuccessful romantic relationships.

Nayanthara replaces Vidya Balan in Mathilukal

Contrary to earlier reports that Vidya Balan would be the heroine in Mammootty's forthcoming Prasad directed Mathilukalkkappuram (sequel to renowned Adoor Gopalakrishnan's 1989 classic Mathilukal), it is now said that reigning queen Nayantara, who is going through a dull phase in her career, will be the heroine.

According to sources, Nayantara will be seen in the role of Narayani, the woman prisoner on the other side of the prison wall in the original. Mammootty will once again appear as Basheer. Ravi K. Chandran will handle the camera and Oscar winner Resul Pookutty will handle the sound. The film is produced by Mammootty�s production company Playhouse. The shooting will begin soon.

Vidya Balan to do Silk Smitha's role

Vidya Balan has time and again managed to bag roles which any other actress would give her right hand for. Recall her sensual performance in Parineeta, the bold and sexy woman in Ishqiya, and mommy dearest to Amitabh Bachchan himself in Paa.
So when casting for a film based on a strong yet sensual woman is being done, it's hardly a surprise that Vidya Balan seems THE obvious choice. Sure enough, for Ekta Kapoor's next film (that chronicles the life of the infamous actress Silk Smitha) currently in pre-production, the lead is being discussed and the buzz is that it's Miss Balan who will play the dare-all Silk Smitha in the film.
Unlike what would seem obvious, the film does not revolve around the sleazy image this late actress got stuck with; instead, it's about how the industry's complexity, stress and eventual loneliness led to her death. Silk Smitha was a South siren, a cult figure who defied conventions and made it on her own. Circumstances and alcohol drove her to what is believed to be a death by suicide.
Milan Luthria, who is currently making Once Upon A Time In Mumbai for Ekta's banner, will be directing this film.
Vidya Balan however hasn't confirmed the news. But one thing is for sure. If Vidya is the one who plays this part, the film is a winner already.
