Birthday baby is Ajith's life rewind
A real charmer with his smile, the honcho walker with people awestruck and the super hero for the masses and the classes alike, join & celebrating Ultimate Star Ajith’s birthday today.
After a couple of movies like ‘Pavithra’ and ‘Amaravathi’, Ajith was recognized in his power-packed performance in ‘Aasai’. He stole the hearts of many with his captivating smile. He just didn’t seem like the guy next door, but like a handsome graceful star. Here started the real journey to ‘ultimate’ stardom.
With female following increasing by the day, his lover boy image took new turns with movies like ‘Kadhal Kottai’ and ‘Kadhal Mannan’. Here was a foundation built for the next generation of romantic heroes in Tamil cinema. With tough competition from heroes like handsome Prashanth and highly energetic Vijay who is supposedly labelled as Ajith’s archrival.
Though competition existed, Ajith continued attracting people of all classes of audience. Be it his costumes, his body language or his youth appeal, he managed to strike a chord with the youth with a thriller like ‘Vaali’, his first double-role movie, with one of the characters being a deaf and mute. ‘Vaali’ was a milestone in Ajith’s character that made him sow the seeds for an invincible future.
Meaty roles come to those who are in business and Ajith didn’t miss those opportunities. He was part of many multi-starrers as well, ‘Ullasam’ with Vikram, and a biggy in the form of ‘Kandukonden Kandukonden’(KK) starring Malayalam super star Mammootty, Tamil star Abbas along with Bollywood heroines Tabu and Aishwarya. In ‘KK’, Ajith was at his charismatic best.
Transition is something that is natural to all beings in this Universe. Be it the celestial bodies, environment or even humans. Ajith slowly shed his lover boy image and grabbed the mass appeal with sensational director Saran’s ‘Amarkalam’ that happened to be the 25th movie for Ajith. He played a rugged character and probably turned out to be his gateway to superstardom. His heroine in the movie Shalini, was not just someone he would see only at the sets, but later made her his better half. Now they’re a happily married couple with their little one Anoushka.
A series of movies that catapulted Ajith to the masses happened. ‘Dheena’ directed by A.R Murugadoss, was one such movie that saw Ajith fight and stretch his muscles. Fans went berserk seeing him use his fists and legs to battle the villains out, making Ajith ready for the 100% Commercial Ingredient Film Menu! He was branded ‘Thala’!
Starting here saw a rough patch with a journey not so smooth. After the transition to a mass hero, a few movies were not really impressive and fans were disappointed. In spite of that, Ajith came up with a revolutionary movie titled ‘Citizen’ where the audience saw him in 10 different get ups. With prosthetics and expensive make up, Ajith pulled off an extraordinary performance.
With experience counting on his side, Ajith became a saleable and dependable actor. With ups and downs, he was always a consistent performer. His ‘Villain’ and ‘God Father’ that was changed to ‘Varalaru’ both directed by K S Ravikumar, made the audience realize Ajith was an actor par excellence. Acting in a triple role in ‘Varalaru’, Ajith indicated his stand for difference in roles unlike his counterparts.
With commercial movies on one side, Ajith spares a lot of time for his devout passion of automobile racing. His interest for the sport is so humongous that the actor has spent exorbitantly on it. Racing on both bikes and cars, Ajith’s concentration was more towards the rocketing cars. After participating at various levels, he is currently participating in the Formula 2 championships. Ask him about his performance, his spirits are always high and he says it’s the interest that keeps him going!
Transition happens at every stage. After the glorious reception among the masses, Ajith climbed to the next level. Doing a gamble by acting in the remake of yesteryear ‘Billa’, Ajith was loaded with style with powerful weapons and classy suits. A sense of expectation for fans had risen and so not to fail them, Ajith changed his looks for subsequent movies like ‘Aegan’ and ‘Aasal’.
His 50th movie is coming up, that too with a director of substance, Gautham Vasudev Menon. Eluding away from how the story would be, besides loads of style and action, his fans can be assured of what the movie holds, it is Ajith, Ajith and just Ajith!

Sura villain Dev Ghill says that Sura will give him a break
Dev Ghill who donned the role of a villain in the super hit Telugu film Magadheera has now acted in the Tamil film Sura which has Vijay in the lead role. While speaking to the media, he said,” I have acted in many films in Hindi. But none of them earned me a good name.
I heard that they were searching for a person to do the villain role in the Telugu film Magadheera. I also went. There were 600 people. I was the last person. When director Raj Mouli saw me he liked me and gave me the offer. I immediately became the villain.
Vijay had seen Magadheera. He had requested director Rajkumar that I should do the villain role in Sura. Initially I moved with Vijay as an actor.
Afterwards this I became his friend. Now we are like brothers. Vijay became so close to me. He removed the fright from me and made me act by speaking Tamil. My role in this film is 45 years old politician. I had come to politics after being a rowdy. After coming into politics I was busy with my family and work.
But at the same time I wanted to achieve something big. Vijay interferes in a work I do. There is a clash between us because of this. Why this problem arises is the interesting stage in this film. I am expecting the release of Sura. This film will give me a break in South Indian cinema. I have got a powerful role in this film. Talks are going on with regard for me to do a lead role in the Hindi film.”

The promos looked like it was just another Vijay film. There was hardly any pre-release buzz around the film. However Sura has turned out to be rollicking fun. Yes, it is much better than any of Vijay’s recent films and can be said to be a time pass clean family entertainer.Conviction can bring any formula to life, as proved by the story, screenplay and direction of SP Raajakumar. It is a mass formula movie purely chiselled around Vijay’s larger than life image, and packaged to suit the taste of his fans. The cardinal rule of the game is not to look for logic or reason, just sit back, relax and enjoy.
The story is wafer thin and as old as the Kodai hills. The writer director’s presentation of Vijay’s mass image- punchline dialogues, fights, comedy, terrific dance movements, Amma sentiments, rich girl falling in love with poor boy and songs work with the viewers.
Sura (Vijay) is a daring, dashing do-gooder fisherman who is the savior of Yazh Nagar, a fishing hamlet. He loves his mother and helps the poor and needy like buying a dozen pens from a blind couple who are trying to eke out a living. A rich girl Poornima (Tamannaah), who tries to commit suicide (because her dog has gone missing!) by walking into the sea, is saved by our hero. Yup, she falls madly in love with him after seeing his large heartedness and his kind nature!
Enter villain, Samudra Raja (Dev Gill) an old fashioned smuggler and now a minister. He wants to grab the land where the fishermen huts are situated and build a theme park there. The rest of the story is all about how Sura using his brains and tact defeats Raja’s machinations and walks into the sunset by the sea holding the hands of his lady love.
Phew! This story has been cyclostyled a thousand times by filmmakers down the ages to make Tamil formula films from the days of MGR, Rajinikanth and now Vijay. There is nothing new in the story, but it is all about packaging and the charisma of its hero.
Take a chill pill, and enjoy the amazing screen presence of Vijay, the one man entertainment troupe. Ranging through a wide field of comedy, dance and song, action and son-mother sentiments, the star shines in this outrageous masala dosa of an entertainer that will surely appeal to a broad spectrum of his fans.
Tamannaah like all heroines in superstar movies is pure eye candy- looks cute, wears revealing outfits and dances with him in foreign locales and seems to be enjoying it. The new villain Dev Gill (Maghadheera fame) is menacing and is a welcome addition to North Indian “bad guys in Kollywood.”
Vadivel seems to have run out of ideas and his comedy track sticks out like a sore thumb. Songs of Mani Sharma are apt for the film with Thanjavur Jillakari… being the pick of the lot. Ekambaram’s wide angel shots of the blue ocean are eye catching. The film at 167 minutes could have been trimmed by 10 minutes.
On the whole Sura is a roller coaster ride of pure unadulterated masala.

Vikram is preparing for his new film
After sharing the spot light along with Abishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai for his scintillating performances in ‘Raavanan’, Cheeyan Vikram is back at work in Chennai.
While waiting for the accolades Vikram is also preparing for his new film with director Boopathy Pandian. The new Cheeyan film is now titled ‘Vedi’ and appropriately Vikram will explode as a police officer a la ‘Samy’.
This Mohan Natarajan production is about an intelligent investigative police officer, who wins the baddies with brain and brawn. Boopathy Pandian is known for pacy films that cater to the masses and with an equally peppy actor in Vikram ‘Vedi’ will explode at the box office.
Ileana plays the heroine to Vikram and the producer plans to dub and release the film simultaneously in Telugu also. As an advantage to that Tollywood comedian Brahmanandam and Kota Sreenivasa Rao play pivotal roles. Actor Aadhi’s father and a popular Telugu director Ravi Raja is also getting introduced as a villain giving company to Kota. More over Devi Sri Prasad, who is equally popular in Tamil and Telugu is scoring the music.
The first schedule of ‘Vedi’ is starting in the second week of June after Vikram comes out of the magic charm of ‘Raavanan’.

Ayngaran International, whose production venture ‘Angadi Theru’ has won rave reviews from all sections of the media, is all set to float its next project. The film will see Mahesh and Anjali, the lead pair of the Vasanthabalan movie, coming together again.
And not just Mahesh and Anjali. If one has to go by sources, the movie to be directed by a newcomer will also have Pandi, who played a close friend to the protagonist of ‘Angadi Theru’, in a pivotal role.
Confirming this, Anjali says, “Yes, we three are going to work for Ayngaran again. I am hopeful that the new film too would win the admiration of the public like how ‘Angadi Theru’ did. The response is so overwhelming.”
On Mahesh, she says, “He was so shy initially. But he has become a good friend of mine now. I still guess I am the first and only girl he has spoken so far.” Happy about her last week release ‘Imayamum Sigaramum Rettaisuzhi’, the girl from Andhra Pradesh says it was a lifetime opportunity for her to work with two veterans- K Balachander and Bharathiraja.

Though Arun Vijay says: “ All the theatres that screened my earlier hit Malai Malai wanted to screen Maanja Velu, so on a request from them and for a wider release, we have pushed the release date to May 21.”

Movie Review Rettaisuzhi
Cast: Bharathiraja, K Balachander, Anjali, Aari, Manobala.
Music: Karthik Raja
Camera: Chezhiyan
PRO: V K Sundar
Direction: Thamira
Veteran film makers Bharathiraja and K. Balachander the two pillars of Tamil Cinema who contributed a lot with their meaningful films have joined their hands in Rettaisuzhi. They are playing the lead roles for the first time. Both the legends have bought dignity and a naturalness to the acting, which is refreshing to watch.
The film starts like a puppet show style of story telling and gradually mingles with usual flow. The story is set in a village near Tirunelveli. Ramaswamy (K Balachandar) a feudal landlord and a former congress man is at loggerheads with Singaravelan (Bharathiraja), an active communist.
It is a 40 year old enmity between the two who are daggers drawn. Their grandchildren and young relatives are initially in two camps and clash like enemies. But the love between Murthy (Aari) and Susheela (Anjali) who are in opposite camps unite the children. Now all the children wow to unite both the lovers, so that the couple can get married. And the way the children make efforts to unit the young lovers is paves a possitive climax.
The real hero of the film is, undoubtedly Bharathiraja. His body language and way of expression are the real treat to good cinema lovers. His performance remembers the good old days of Muthal Mariyathai, especially when he realises Anjali's deep love towards the boy. There is nothing novel of extraordinary portrayal in KB's role, but in the climax he proves his experience.
The lead pair Anjali and Aari lacks the chemistry and is not convincing as lovers. The nearly two dozen children at times get on your nerve and are some times too smart. But managing with 24 children is not an easy job. Karnas as a cop who has a soft corner for the heroine makes you laugh and Manobala is another interesting character in the film.
Nallan Thamizh, an upcoming dialogue writer is impressive with the one liners. Karthik Raja’s music and Chezhiyan's camera works are the silver lines of the film. On the negative side, the director fails to full fill the expectations, even though the producer gives his best support and budget to him. In most of the scenes the children dominate the screen which gradually kills your interest of watching the movie.

Cheran speaks about Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya movie
Director-actor Cheran said that Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya was a not a crowd-puller during the first week of its release. Speaking at the audio launch of Virundaali, Cheran said that Gautham Menon was concerned that VTV would be thrown out of the theatres with not enough crowds pouring in during the first week. However, word of mouth from the audience had pushed the film to an astounding success. Cheran rued that if theatre owners decide to pack off a film within a short time, then it is the filmmakers who would suffer. He added that movie buffs will also miss a chance to see these films in theaters and opt for DVDs.

Tamanna speaks about Sura Movie
Sura which is presented by Sun Pictures is all set for release on 30th April. Thamanna who is eagerly waiting for the release of this film said,” For the first time I am pairing with Vijay in Sura.
People who saw the trailer and advertisements say that our pair is super. People who saw the song Naan Nadanthal say that we both are very stylish. I should be thankful to director S P Rajkumar and cameraman Ekambaram for this. Vijay is a simple type. I will take time to understand the dialogue and then act.
Vijay will waiting patiently and cooperate with me. I should tell definitely about comedy. There will be always importance for comedy in Vijay films. He himself will do a lot of comedy. What else can we expect if Vadivelu joins with him? Rajkumar also told me to do comedy. I got scared.
How is it possible for me to do comedy with them? But Vijay encouraged me a lot and I acted in these scenes. These scenes have come out well and will be entertaining. About the unit, I always got the best unit in Tamil cinema.
