Summer movie releases

What summer is it?. It is big stars, mega budgets and huge hype to get the holiday season audiences into the theatres.
As Abirami Ramanathan says: “Summer is the best season to release the biggies, as one of the biggest attractions for the audiences are big budget entertainers.”
The release of Lingusamy’s Paiya last Friday (April 2) has kickstarted the summer box-office. Next action adventure film on April 14 is Arun Vijay’s Maanja Velu, which the trade believes may turn out to be a masala entertainer that lure the B & C viewers to the theatres. Sundar C has two ‘masala’ entertainers releasing on the same day (April 16), Vaada and Guru Sishyan.
The big summer movie is definitely going to be Sun Pictures Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s 50th Golden Jubilee action adventure Sura, scheduled to release on April 23. Then on May 7, the cowboy adventure Irumbukottai Murattu Singam is scheduled to release.
The other big summer release is going to be Sun Pictures Suriya as ‘Dirty Harry’ cop in Singam, due May end or June first week.
It will be followed by the most eagerly awaited summer release Mani Ratnam’s Vikram-Aiswarya Rai Raavana on June 18. These are some of the films ready for release along with a dozen small and medium films.

Paiya set to become a blockbuster

Declared already as a hit, collection reports of Lingusamy's 'Paiyaa' suggest the film is all set to become a blockbuster. Ever since the Karthi-Tamannah starrer hit screens Friday last, it has been running packed houses all over Tamil Nadu, theatre sources say.
Rave reviews from the media and aggressive marketing strategies by Dhayanidhi Alagiri, who had acquired the release rights, have been drawing crowds to cinema halls screening 'Paiyaa', we learn.
"Expectations of those who come to theatres are thoroughly fulfilled by Lingusamy and his team. Most of the scenes are received by the audience with huge applause," say sources.
"Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is no doubt an asset to the film," they say and add: "Youngsters are seen dancing for most of the numbers with Adadada Mazhada topping the list."
On performance by the lead actors, sources say, "Karthi's aggressive acting and cool looks have won the appreciation of many while Tamannah steals the show with her stunning looks and expressions. The chemistry they share on screen is great."

Tamanna is the top

Tamanna is among the top actresses in tinselville. Given that most top heroines here are busy pursuing their Bombay Dreams, the gorgeous Tamannaah is getting more and more offers here. Tamannaah, who played her part well in Kandein Kadhalai, the remake of Jab We Met, is truly excited with her just-released Paiyya opposite Karthi.
“God has been very kind to me, and my luck has taken me from one hit to another. 2009 was an awesome and lucky year for me. Three of my four releases were hugely successful at the BO. I got the opportunity to work in good projects and it has been a great learning graph for me. It was pure coincidence and fate. I walked into Paiyya after a major Hindi project of mine got canceled at the last minute. Due to that, I had free dates to accommodate Lingusamy sir’s film,” she said to a leading English daily.
Speaking more about Paiyya, the pretty actress said, “I saw it a couple of days ago with the rest of the unit. The film has been well made and I’m confident that it will work big time with the audiences. Charu (my character in the film) is my best role till date and she’s close to my heart. She is simple but not bubbly unlike most characters you come across in films. An undercurrent of tension runs through Charu, which is expressed in a very subtle manner. She conveys her emotions through her eyes. I’m present in the film from the first frame to the last and I owe a lot to Lingusamy sir. There are just two characters in the film, the guy and the girl. The romance is subtle as the guy falls in love at first sight while the girl takes time to reciprocate his feelings.”
Coming up next for the pretty actress is the biggest film of them all, Sura opposite Ilayathalapathi Vijay! While the movie is said to be a proper mass masala flick, we hear that Tamannaah has upped the glamour in the movie. Then there is Vikramakurdu’s remake with Karthi again, and Aruva with director Hari and Dhanush. In Telugu, she will be seen in Badirinath opposite Allu Arjun and an untitled film with Naga Chaitanya.

Vijay and Sangeetha watch Paiya movie in Sathyam cinemas

The Paiyaa premiere on Friday night saw an impressive turn out of celebrities from Tamil cinema attending the show at the Sathyam cinemas. Significant among the attendees who walked the red carpet were Vijay and Sangeetha, Venkat Prabhu, Premji Amaran, Jai, Parthiban, Vivek, Silambarasan, Krish Sangeetha, Sibiraj, Revathi, Gautham Menon and Vishnuvardhan. A visibly cheery Karthi and Tamannah were also present at the premiere.

Paiyaa’s opening day has reportedly been remarkable in both urban and rural centers. According to the film sources, many promotional events are also planned for the movie’s publicity in Chennai city.

Paiya Friday release

If you are planning to have a blast this weekend, you can reserve ‘Paiyaa’ tickets from this morning, for plans for the Lingusamy’s film will be open at cinema halls all over Tamil Nadu from today.
A whopping number of 18 theatres will release the Karthi-Tamannah starrer this Friday in Chennai alone. Remember we are talking about cinema halls in mainland and not about those in the suburbs.
Interestingly, Mayajal will screen 40 shows a day, a first-of-its kind patronage for a film starring an up and coming actor like Karthi in the lead. All other theatres will have extra shows in the releasing weekend, and at least four shows a day after that.
“This shows the expectations the movie has created. It’s all because of two persons- Lingusamy the director and Dhayanidhi Alagiri, who had acquired the release rights of the movie,” says a source in the distribution business.

Paiyya gets one more song

Paiya (Tamil), titled Awara in Telugu, is one of the most-anticipated summer releases of 2010. With almost all the songs topping the charts, director Lingusamy and music director Yuvanshankar Raja have now decided to add one more track to the album. This new track would be added in the movie and the new CD would be released simultaneously with the release of the film.
Karthi has teamed up with the beautiful Tamannaah for the first time in their careers. Karthi goes from the uncouth rural youth to the utterly sophisticated software professional in this film. Besides directing the movie, Lingusamy, one of the successful film-makers of Tamil cinema, is also producing it. Dhayanidhi Alagiri's Cloud Nine Movies has acquired the release rights of the film recently. The film is simultaneously getting released in Telugu also.
