Vaanam shooting nears to end

The shooting of Vaanam, the Simbu and Bharath multi-starrer, is nearing the climax. Literally! Director Krish has already finished filming the portions involving different actors in the movie. Since the plot revolves around the conjuncture of five characters in the climax, it is quite a task to acquire the dates of all the actors. According to sources, only a few scenes and the climax remain to be filmed.

Vaanam has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja and he along with Simbu, will be releasing a single track for the promotional agenda on October 15. The film's producer VTV Ganesh is also planning to premiere the movie in London. Vaanam is expected to be released during the last week of November or by first week of December.

Naan Mahaan Alla team gave very good performance

Naan Mahaan Alla is a blockbuster, no doubt. The film’s lead actor Karthi’s performance was well-appreciated by all those who have seen the movie. Also appreciated for their excellent performance were the five baddies. While one of them is an assistant to NMA’s director Sussendiran, the rest were chosen by the director by chance meeting.

It was interesting to note that these five young baddies, during climax fight sequence, caught the attention of the audience. This surely needs to be appreciated considering the fact that all these youngsters are debutantes

Movie Review: Paiya(Actor-Karthi; Actress-Tamanna)

Starring: : Karthi, Tamannah.
Direction: Lingusamy
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Production: Thirupathi Brothers

More than two years after his debut movie Paruthiveeran, Karthi's next release was Aayirathil Oruvan. Though that movie has been getting mixed responses, there is no doubt that his performance is stupendous. The movie is an important chapter in Tamil cinema. And now we have Paiyya, releasing today

Director Lingusamy traverses on an all new road show in Paiyaa in his home production Tirupathi Brothers and has acquitted himself fairly well. Although romance seems to be the axle in Paiyaa, Lingusamy has skewed away mildly from this and spiced it up with a travel (escape) event as a backdrop.

The film opens up with an ingenious manner of credits flipping on the road and dividers, lucidly indicating the genre of the film. A creative brainwave indeed!

Karthi (Shiva), an engineering graduate with an attitude, is on the look out for a job. He does not seem to be much serious in seeking employment while his friends try their best to settle him. He spots Tamannah (Charu) in a bus stop and it is love at first sight. He finds her on a couple of occasions later and in fact misses an interview in her pursuit. Destiny seems to have something good waiting for him and he gets to spend the most beautiful phase of his life, giving her a ride in the car while waiting to pick the owner of the car at the railway station. Life takes an exciting turn from this point for Karthi who accepts to drop her in Mumbai and thus begins Paiyaa’s journey of romance, action and emotions on a highway with a few turns, some with caution and some without.

Paiyaa zooms forward in the first half where Karthi is at driver’s seat physically and metaphorically. An enjoyable performance from the young actor who appears to relish his role! For the first time in his career, he gets to cover himself with stylish costumes. He sparkles with haughty countenance, sideway glances, mischievous looks, ‘know it all’ attitude and an understated curiosity to know about Tamannah. He reiterates that he can essay any kind of role with aplomb. But there are still some vestiges of a villager in him which he needs to divest when necessary. Tamannah is fresh, youthful and emotes well too. Jagan has a small role in the second half. Karthi’s friends are adept in their performance. Except for looking hot and handsome, the much talked about Milind Soman is wasted and any one could have performed his role.

Yuvan Shankar Raja is the major backbone of Paiyaa with lovely tracks suiting the mood of the film. Tamannah looks as fresh as the raindrops in thuli thuli mazhayai number. Suthude suthude boomi speaks of art director Rajeevan’s work but he could have taken extra care especially about the stationery cloud hovering around the moon. The songs are all chartbusters and have all been picturized very aesthetically. Priya Manikandan’s costumes are in sync with the nature of characters and the mood of the film. Brinda Sarathy’s dialogues evoke laughter at the right places.

The second half slackens with some of the actions sequences appear contrived especially in the climax. How can someone even lift his head when beaten by a powerful metal rod? It is difficult to comprehend despite attributing it to cinematic liberties. The climax fights intend to be more for showcasing Karthi’s heroism than for the story warranting it. And why is Karthi shown as someone who does not speak English despite being a city bred engineer with urban friends for company?

Director Lingusamy has stuck to the genre that he has chosen for most part. He has recorded romance in a beautiful manner especially when Karthi communicates his feelings to his friends seeking advice and his dignified attitude towards Tamannah. The car chasing sequence in the open field is absolutely brilliant and so is Karthi going reverse in the opposite direction. Cinematographer Madhie needs plaudits here. Crisp editing by Anthony especially in the action sequences is a major plus point of Paiyaa and deserves a special mention.

All in all, a stylish, light hearted family entertainer for the summer!

High lights:
>> Karthi, who was seen with the soiled-lungi look in both Paruthiveeran and Aayirathil Oruvan, seems to have gone in for an appealing makeover in the film.
>> The sizzling chemistry between Karthi and Tamannaah.
>> Paiyya is a road movie, a travelogue. How would a young man, who had flipped for a beautiful girl he saw the previous day, feel when she actually walks up to him and hitch-hikes a ride to Mumbai? That forms the plot of the film.
>> This is Lingusamy's sixth film after Anandam, Run, Ji, Sandakkozhi and Bheema.
>> Yuvan's songs are a high point of Paiyya. So are Na. Muthukumar's lyrics; the rain song 'Adada Mazhai' is one of the most-awaited among them!
>> The film has bagged a clean ‘U’ certificate without any cuts.

Kumbakonam shot in Boss Engira Baskaran

Denying reports that traffic came to a standstill in Kumbakonam thanks to the shoot of 'Boss Engira Baskaran', the Arya-Nayantara starrer, director of the film Rajesh says the film's crew never disturbed traffic.
"A big bus was hired and scenes on Arya and Nayantara were shot in Kumbakonam. Though locals gathered in large numbers to watch the shooting, they were very co-operative and never disturbed us. Even we too did not disturb their movement," he says.
After a good showing in 'Siva Manasula Sakthi', the director is now busy with 'Boss Engira Baskaran'. The movie is produced by Vasan Visuals Ventures, who came out with 'Naan Kadavul' last year.
"Boss Engira Baskaran is a complete laugh-riot. Arya plays a light-hearted role. He would be the darling of the masses, once the movie gets released", Rajesh says.
Dwelling further, the director says, "the story is character-driven and all artistes have a role to play in the film". The movie has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Paruthiveeran Karthi v/s Aayirathil Oruvan Karthi

http://im.sify.com/entertainment/movies/tamil/images/nov2009/karthitwo250.jpg

After nearly three years since his first film Paruthiveeran released, it looks like for Pongal 2010, Karthi will have two of his films releasing the same day.

A few days back producer R Raveendran said his long in the making Selvaraghavan directed Aayirathil Oruvan will release for Pongal. A couple of day’s later producer and director Lingusamy has announced that his Karthi- Tamannaah starrer Paiyya will also release for Pongal!

The trade is totally confused as big people in the industry are backing both the projects. Raveendran feels that his film should get priority as it was started earlier and the delay was due to the graphic work on the film.

However, Lingusamy is within his rights as he completed his film on time and cannot sit on it as his interest amount taken to produce the film mounts. How many times the release of Aayirathil Oruvan has been postponed in the past?

Let us hope that the matter is amicably settled as both the producers of Karthi film are waiting to see who blinks first and withdraws from the Pongal race. Meanwhile the audio of Paiyya which has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja will be released by the end of the month.

Venkat Prabu's Big day

Guess a similarity between Kamal Haasan and Venkat Prabhu? Both celebrate their birthday today- November 7.

Last year the filmmaker celebrated his big day in a fun-filled way with his special gang of buddies, including the likes of SPB Charan, Shiva, Yuvan Shankar Raja and others. This year too he is planning one, say sources close to him.

After having given blockbusters like 'Chennai 600028' and 'Saroja', the filmmaker is now gearing up to deliver a hat-trick with 'Goa', produced by Soundarya Rajinikanth for Ocher Productions.

His family is synonymous with Tamil Cinema, since he is the son of director-music composer Gangai Amaran. His uncle is the legendary Maestro Illayaraja and his cousins are the famous music composers Yuvan Shankar Raja, Karthik Raja and singer Bhavatharani.

His younger brother Premji Amaran is an actor, singer and of course a music composer too. Though he had the ambition to became a successful music director after completing his music degree from Trinity College of Music London he however started his career as a singer in the film industry and later became an actor.

He hogged spotlight for the first time when he turned director with the summer hit 'Chennai 600028', after which he directed the comedy thriller film 'Saroja', which again proved to be successful and established him finally.

Venkat Prabhu is married to Rajalakshmi, the foster daughter of dance teacher K. J Sarasa, and has a daughter named Shivani.
