Aayirathil Oruvan vs Kutty vs Nanayam vs Porkkalam

Everything is moving with clockwork precision for the big Pongal spread from Kollywood on January 14.
The big two Aayirathil Oruvan and Kutty have dispatched their overseas prints, while Nanayam and Porkkalam have firmed up their release stations across Tamil Nadu.
Selvaraghavan’s magnum opus Aayirathil Oruvan, is releasing big in over 400 screens world wide, the biggest ever non superstar film release ever in Tamil.
The film has taken a very impressive advance booking sales in Chennai city where it is releasing in 14 screens including five on what trade calls Mount Road area, with approximately 3800 seats available per show.
Any which way you look the film is going to take a super star style opening!
Dhanush’s feel good family entertainer Kutty too is releasing big in 13 screens across the city. The family audiences are likely to lap up the film during the four day Pongal weekend, as it carries a clean ‘U’ certificate with no cuts.
Remember during Pongal watching a movie with the entire family is a must for traditional Tamils and Kutty fits the bill.
The buzz among the trade who were shown a preview of SPB Charan produced Nanayam is positive. The film is opening in 110 screens across TN including 9 screens in Chennai city and has potential to be a sleeper hit.
The other Pongal release is Bandi Saroj Kumar’s Porkkalam, an action packed movie with Kishore and six other villains. It is also releasing in over 100 screens across Tamil Nadu including 9 in Chennai city.

Kelvikkuri only movie relesed today

It looks like this Friday (Jan 8), will see the release of only one Tamil film, Kelvikkuri.
The small budget film has been long in the making and has its debutant producer and director Jeilani in the lead along with glam girls Sona and Preeti Varma providing the meat.
As Pongal is just six days away, none of the producers want to risk releasing their film earlier.
The Pongal line up remains the same- Aayirathil Oruvan, Kutty, Nanayam, Porkkalam. All the festival releases are on January 14.
Meanwhile other language movies will have a free run this weekend. Aamir Khan’s Raju Hirani directed blockbuster 3 Idiots, has increased the number of screens in Tamil Nadu from 22 to 40.
Avatar is doing rocking business with its 3D version still doing 100 percent in Chennai city.

Four movie releases on Pongal

As January 14 is fast approaching, it looks like four films will release for Pongal.
All the four- Aayirathil Oruvan, Kutty, Nanayam, Porkkalam have been censored and are advertising with their theatre listings.
The last to drop out of the Pongal race is Chimbudervan’s Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam, which as predicted has moved to February.
Out of the remaining four Aayirathil Oruvan and Kutty will share the best screens in Tamil Nadu and Overseas, while Nanayam, Porkkalam will share the rest.
The biggest theatre hunt has started, as already most of them are blocked by Vettaikaran and Avatar, who may go beyond Pongal.
Added to that in Chennai city, multiplexes have no screens to spare as 3 Idiots are making merry as it is turning out to be the biggest Bollywood blockbuster of all times!
