Director-turned-actor Sundar C. has become a successful actor. After a long gap, Sundar C. is back as director with Nagaram Marupakkam, a sequel of his hit film Thalainagaram, first film as hero. Anuya of Siva Manasula Sakthi is the heroine.

The film narrates the story of a hardcore criminal Selvam (Sundar C.) and his wicked police friend Sakkarapandi (Bose Venkat). We also have a beautiful dancer Bharathi (Anuya), who is in the midst of some serious problem in life.

The Plot

Interestingly, the story begins with a group of people beating Sundar C. at Chennai Central station. Reason? Sundar C. tried to flee from the city with Anuya and their baby. The rest of the story is narrated in a flashback!

Gate Selvam (Sundar C.), a hardcore criminal and Inspector Sakkarapandi (Bose Venkat) are childhood friends. Selvam will go to any extent to help his friend Sakkarapandi from all troubles. After being released from prison, Selvam decides to lead a clean life, but this doesn't goes well with his police friend. Sakkarapandi uses Selvam in all his unlawful activities and so he decides to trap Selvam again!

Meanwhile Selvam meet Bharathi (Anuya), a dancer and junior artiste who is facing lots of personal problems. Gradually Selvam falls for her. At the same time, Sakkarapandi earns the wrath of Kadhar Bhai (Sreenivasan), a local don. To help his friends, Selvam fights against Kadhar Bhai but soon, Selvam learns Sakkarapandi's true colours. He decides to leave the city with Anuya, but in vain! Do Bharathi and Selvam get united and live in peace or are they cut into pieces? What happens to Kadhar Bhai, Sakkarapandi and Selvam? That is the climax.

The Performances

There is hilarious comedy in plenty from Vadivelu (Style Pandi). Sundar C. has performed action, portrayed sentiments and friendship realistically. Anuya is perfect for the role.

Bose Venkat, George, Vichu, Ponnambalam, Besant Ravi and Nalini have done their parts well. Music by Thaman is pleasant. Cinematography is also worth appreciating.

Overall, Nagaram Marupakkam conveys the message that a man in bad company can never rely on all that he thinks he possesses, as it can be snatched away from him at any moment.
