Suriya is now turns National Hero

October 22, 2010 is going to be a watershed day in the career of Surya. His first Bollywood outing ‘Raktha Charaitra’ is releasing and he will become a nation star from that day. Ram Gopl varma has already ignited the popularity flame of Surya in the north Indian media. His comments on the powerful eyes of Surya during the launch op the trailer and Neha Dupia finding him very hot are some news that already welcomed Surya in Bollywood.

But Surya has worked hard for his position today. If Amir Khan feels Surya as Gajini was better than him as Ghajini that’s the versatility of Surya.
Look at how a simple looking lover boy metamorphosed into one of the most accomplished actors in Indian cinema today.

A lot has been said about Ghajini already. When Amir Khan remade it n Hindi Surya also became a talking point. AR Murugadoss’ inspiration from Christopher Nolan's Memento worked wonders at the box office and in the life of Surya. He got the Tamil Nadu State Film Special Award for Best Actor. What more? After Amir Khan’s Ghajini released the nation turned its spotlight on Surya. Who did better? Aamir Khan flew down to gift a pricy laptop to Surya.

Nerruku Ner in 1997 introduced Surya to Kollywood. Produced by Maniratnam and directed by Vasanth, it was a perfect launch pad for Surya. He played a loving brother who also romanced with Simran. Though he shared the screen with Vijay in his first film Surya was noticed more than for being Sivakumar’s son.

After taking his time and five films after Surya got his break in 2001. Two films released this year and Surya said he is here to stay. One is Friends by Siddique and the other is Nanda by Bala. One is a comedy and the other is a classic melodrama. Surya excelled in both and said aloud that he is an actor more than a star. For Nanda, Surya won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor

Then in 2002, Surya again proved in two different genres under the baton of two special directors. Emotional Unnai Ninaithu with Vikraman and sizzling Mounam Pesiyathe with Ameer are two notable films in Surya’s career.

By 2003, Surya was on the verge of becoming a super star. The two films of the year Kaaka Kaaka and
Pithamagan won all the adulations Surya was waiting for. Anbu Selvan IPS has become an iconic image of Tamil cinema by the brilliant performance of Surya. He rewrote cop stories for the future and generated many clones. The superlative combination of Gautham Menon and Surya made a style statement with Kaakka Kaakka. Surya won The International Tamil Film Award.

The other film Pithamagan was another milestone. Playing along with Vikram Surya stood on his own. The bubbly effervescence Surya got, Filmfare Best Tamil Supporting Actor Award.

The dual roles in Perazhagan were an achievement in histrionics. As a pitied village a village youth who is a hunchback, Surya scaled many peaks with ease. The contrasting urban Surya was also very convincing with diagonally different mannerisms adopted by Surya. The film got him the Filmfare Best Tamil Actor Award.

Vaaranam Aayiram was yet another landmark film. Gautham Menon who gave the first big big break for Surya at the box office, made him a better actor in Vaaranam Ayiram. As the dotting father who sacrifices everything for his son and as the obedient son who is not willing to trouble his father to an iota level, Surya gave a performance of highest level. Not many films are remembered as this to know the father-son relationship. Awards and rewards flowed like the Filmfare Best Tamil Actor Award, Tamil Nadu State Film Special Award for Best Actor etc.
