Seeman to protest against Amitabh
With the Bollywood IIFA awards proposed to be held in Sri Lanka this year, Amitabh visited Colombo recently and took part in an event sharing stage with Sri Lankan President Rajapakshe. While rehabilitation of the war affected ethnic Tamils in Sri Lanka is still a grey area which is a globally monitored issue, is it appropriate for Bollywood to host the event in the country? Seeman, who is vociferous about supporting the interests of Sri Lankan Tamils, was asked this question recently.
The director, in a wry, sarcastic tone replied that it’s nothing surprising. “We have the reputation of sending our cricket team to the country when the war was still being fought,” he stated. He added that it’s ironic that the Bollywood film industry is insensitive about the whole issue. He also revealed plans to stage demonstration in front of Amitabh’s house in Mumbai to protest this.
