Yes, definitely the movie is a realistic film on the lines of Autograph, Azhagi, Pasanga, and Vennila Kabbadi Kuzhu. It is a painful love story. This story chronicles the life of a guy who loses his parents at the age of 8 and then this girl comes into his life and fills the void. The film deals about the emotions he goes through when she suddenly leaves him.
Directors usually claim that they have made a realistic film, but do you think such staunch “in the face realism” would work well in the current scenario?
Be it any film, it needs to have an interesting story and a screenplay. Aval Peyar Tamilarasi is one such film. Films made with an intention to just amuse the audience are failing badly. In fact, people say they are not even entertaining. I strongly believe that a film with a clever, interesting screenplay has a lot more chance to be successful.
Few directors always contend that the taste of the audience has to change, what do you think about the audience’s taste today?
The fate of box-office is always decided by the audience. Our Tamil people have always welcomed something different. Once I travelled with Balu Mahendra Sir in an auto, the auto driver spoke so much about his film Veedu that we were really taken aback.
Having worked with distinguished names like Balu Mahendra and Thangar Bachchan, Do you feel the pressure of delivering good cinema?
Definitely, my film has a good buzz because I have come from their school of thought.
Do you see a change in how films are being made today?
It is changing for the better; the success of Paruthiveeran and Subramaniapuram proves it. Even top heroes today want to do good films. Commercial films haven’t really done well in the recent past. The change is already here.
Why did you select Jai for this role?
When I saw Jai in Chennai – 28, and I knew he could play a jolly guy kind of a character. After I saw Subramaniapuram I knew he could pull of a mature character as well.
