Asin joins Vijay in Malayalam remake movie Bodyguard

The Kollywood grapevine is abuzz that Asin has confirmed that she will do the Tamil remake of Siddique’s Malayalam Bodyguard with ‘Ilayathalapathy’ Vijay! Asin is likely to do the female lead in the film done by Nayanthara in Malayalam. It is a strong author backed role and is the pivot around which the film revolves.
Actually three years back when director Siddique had narrated the story to Asin she had promised to do it in Tamil if Vijay was the hero. Since then there was a climate change as she became a top heroine in Bollywood and rubbed shoulders with the likes of Aamir Khan and Salman Khan, she lost interest in Kollywood.
Now things have changed after London Dreams turned out to be a nightmare for the actress. Today she has no live projects in Bollywood, as she refused to do films with lesser mortals like Shaheed Kapoor or Saif! More alarming is that she is likely to lose some of her lucrative endorsement deals if she does not do a film in 2010.
However the proverbial last straw was when Sanjay Leela Bhansali confirmed that Vidya Balan will be his heroine in his new film Chenab Gandhi, with Amitabh Bachchan and John Abraham. The Mumbai press had earlier said that Asin was the front runner, but Vidya with Paa and Ishqia has piped her to the post.
Another role she was backing on Shah Rukh Khan’s Anubhav Sinha directed scifi thriller Ra 1, has gone to Bollywood’s number one actress Kareena Kapoor. All this has left Asin high and dry and she withdrew into her shell.
The best thing for her now is to sign a Tamil film before it is too late. Asin can still give Tamaannah a run for her ‘numero uno’ position. She is still a major brand and has a strong fan base in rural Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
The buzz is that Siddique and Vijay have spoken to Asin, and is waiting for her to give a positive reply before the end of the month, as the film will start rolling in April end. Vijay feels Asin is his lucky mascot as both their films together Sivakasi and Pokkiri were super hits.
A source close to the development said: “They have offered her a fabulous amount to do the film. Asin knows the subject and is also keen to do it, but the trouble is her ego is not allowing her to do a Tamil film as she is now living in a make believe world where she thinks one of the Khan’s SRK, Salman or an Aamir will do a film with her”
